Marvelous Mondays: Elektra 2005 by the IPC

Once again, another Monday is upon us. I am here to make it happy for you by posting a review of Elektra, produced by Pappy, who blogs over at the IPC.  Pappy (or Eric, he has many names), has the funniest blog I have ever stumbled across. He hosts Shitfest about four times a year, and if you are interested in doing a most fun blogathon, I suggest you keep your little eyes open for the next opportunity. Thanks for participating Pappy!!!

ELEK1

Here’s the deal with me and this movie. When Daredevil came out back in the day I was REALLY out on Ben AFFLACK and refused to go see it (I still haven’t but I actually like the guy now). So when this came out, I read all of the bad things everyone had to say about it and didn’t feel like giving it a shot in case AFFLACK and his shit-eating face showed up. So, when Kidney announced this run and I looked at the list, I thought, “Hey, why not?? We could have something here for the next shitfest!” and gave it a look.

ELEK3

For those of you that don’t know me, I look at a lot of shitty movies. It’s what I’ve done my whole life.  I would always walk to the video store and just rent whatever was new. I’ve also never been a real big fan of mainstream movies, for the most part. I like to find little films that no one else has ever seen and they’re my little secret. All of this is to put something in perspective – I watch a LOT of bad movies. Movies that are so bad they hurt.  I’m also not one of those people that ONLY watch things I’m going to like and give everything a 4 out of 5 or a nine out of ten.  So, when I tell you that I thought this movie was pretty OK, and you return with “WHAT THE FUCK ISAACS YOU IDIOT!!!!!” I challenge you to watch something like GREEN RIVER or THE LEGEND OF SORROW CREEK or CLOSETS and then come back and tell me how much Elektra sucks.

ELEK4

This isn’t a GREAT movie or anything, but after hearing so much negativity about it, I have to ask – what were the haters expecting? I don’t really know dick about the character from the comics – for some reason I thought she was Russian but I could be confusing her with someone else, Daredevil was never my favorite.  I thought Garner did a good job as the character. She seemed to be no nonsense and wasn’t acting up like some ham or something. I thought SOME of the fight scenes were done pretty well and, despite some dodginess in the last big battle, I was surprised at how much I didn’t hate it.

Now, I’m not recommending anyone to drop everything they’re doing, pull up their pants and run out to the fucking store to buy it, but it certainly wasn’t THAT bad. In fact, if you’re going to give this a go, I suggest you have an appetizer of DIMPLES, ROGUE RIVER or ROOM 33. Then watch Elektra. Then let’s go have a beer. Or nineteen. THANKS KIDNEY!!!!

THANKS PAPPY!!!

PS: If you are interested, see the list here and get back to me!

Life lately

Morning

If you feel a bit depressed about it being Monday, you are not alone. Welcome to the most loathed day in the week. I really hope it goes well for you.

I’ve been planning: My sister’s bachelorhood. I am excited and very nervous at the same time – I really want things to go well. Also, I have been planning how to get everything done that I need to do… so many things, so little time.

bachelorettes

I’ve been eating: Muesli and Yogurt for breakfast. It is delicious and healthy. Win
I’ve been dreaming about: Having my own car. It will be the best day of my life, I am sure of this.

I’ve been thinking about: How to live life to the fullest, at maximum happiness levels.
I’ve been spending money on: Make-up and toiletries. They are my greatest weakness when it comes to spending money.
I’ve been reading: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

Hunger games book

I’ve been watching: Sons of Anarchy obsessively, and in between the Mentalist Season 4. Both are very entertaining.
I’ve been wearing: Lipstick. It is a habit I have to learn. I really think it is a way to look instantly more groomed.
I’m thankful for: My family, my tablet and my driver’s license.
I’m in love with: Charlie Hunnam. Between Pacific Rim and Sons of Anarchy, he has what it takes.

What have you been up to lately?

Happy Monday

Happy Monday!

Today is FREEZING in South-Africa (everyone on social networks seems to feel inclined to mention this especially), but I am in a pretty good mood. It has been a while since I posted some motivational pictures, so please see below, and be motivated 🙂

Great-Inspirational-Quotes

This quote describes perfectly how I have been feeling lately. I wish people (including myself) would stop being obsessed with what other people think of them.

This quote by Gandhi has always been one of my favorite quotes ever.

I am a worrier. There is always something to worry about, but I am training myself to worry less and be more productive about things.

Weekends, books and stuff

Well, hello 🙂 this weekend was pretty nice, although I had a few moments where I wondered about the galling personalities some people have.

Books:

Finally read through Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. What a fantastic book – it was so amazing to read it again. It will always be one of my favourite books in the series. I started on the Deathly Hallows, and am wondering what book I will start on when I am finished – maybe some brand new writer I have never read before.

Weight loss:

I lost a kilogram! I have never been so happy to see the scale drop down. It has been on my mind how rapid weight loss diets are negatively impacting the way we see a healthy lifestyle. Healthy dieting means losing at most a kg a week, and I, being used to all these wonder diets, had been expecting 3-4 kg’s a week. Do you have any weight loss stories to share? Also, I was supposed to give up coffee from today, but I guess I will start that tomorrow :). Last week I managed to 30 minutes of exercise for three days – a record for the past few months! Keep those fingers crossed that I will do it this week as well.

I watched Lord of the Rings – Return of the King, this weekend. It was as superb as always. I really love those films.

Relationships:

Are so complex. Why do I have to deal with broken relationships (that has long ended) right now? Honestly, I have better things to focus on. The best part this weekend was when someone had the audacity to try to give advice about things they do not understand, or have no experiences in. Meh. Seriously, start dating then I will listen to your opinion, okay.

On the studying front, I didn’t make much progress. I had been working so hard on my last assignment submissions last week that I couldn’t find the energy to start again. I will be studying through the week now.

And lastly, some motivational stuff for a Monday. Enjoy

Weekend, books and stuff

Morning everyone!

I hope all of you had a great weekend? For me, it was very nice, mainly because I got to be home and read some!

First of all, I just need to congratulate my friends Carla and Johan with the birth of their first-born  daughter Lisha. Congrats guys! I won’t be posting any pics of her, since it is kinda creepy, and falls into the same category of posting pictures of a wedding without permission of the bride first. But let me tell you, she is cute.

Secondly, I seriously need a new laptop. Mine broke completely, and now I need one. I am surprised by how much I miss it. Suddenly I have tons of assignments to type up, series to watch, and not to mention the prepping for this blog. I am still procrastinating the buying of it, since spending at least four grand on one single item is really not appealing to me right now – I just noticed how little winter clothes I have!

On the topic of winter – can you believe it is already April?! I had no idea the time was flying so quickly. It is shocking! I really thought I would have much more done by now. But I will be travelling to Mpumalanga at the end of April, to visit my best friend Zoë for her birthday! It is going to be so awesome!

The beginning of April also means that I am fully on the weight loss train again. I have been neglecting my diet and exercising so much, under the excuse of a busy lifestyle. Well, no more! I am joining the girls at the office for our Weight Watchers type of weigh-ins, and I can tell you, the thought of weighing at work is a wonderful motivator to lose weight!

On the book front, I finally finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It felt as if it was taking ages, but when I got to the part where Voldemort returns, I just couldn’t put it down. I started this morning on the Order of the Phoenix. I suspect I will be rather sad when I am finished with all the Harry Potter books. I think I will start on Suzanne Collins’s the Hunger Games after this – I would love to read the books slowly this time.

Here are some motivational quotes for the day
